I liked the movie La doublure. It had an interesting story. It involves a guy named François Pignon and...
here is the IMDB link
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449851/
and heres the synopsis by Pruneau
A Parisian valet loves a woman who rejects him: she's in debt to open a bookshop, and he's not her ideal man. A billionaire two-times his wealthy wife with his beautiful mistress, a young supermodel. To draw the paparazzi and his wife off the trail of adultery, and to give his lawyer time to arrange a divorce that won't cost him a fortune, the billionaire pays the supermodel and the valet to pretend for a month to be a couple. Within days, the bookshop owner and the billionaire are jealous, the supermodel experiences life with a nice guy, and the valet has status and self-confidence. What will each do with newfound wisdom? Written by Pruneau
OOOH. La doublure.sounds scandalous. François Pignon is funny. One of my favorite ones, which is totally different from yours, is La cité des enfants perdus! It is so good.
Here is a short summery from IMDB, Everyone should see it. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!
Krank (Daniel Emilfork), who cannot dream, kidnaps young children to steal their dreams. One (Ron Perlman), a former whale hunter who is as strong as a horse, sets forth to search for Denree, his little brother who was kidnapped by Krank's men. Helped by young Miette (Judith Vittet), he soon arrives in La Cite des Enfants Perdus.
Your favorite movies sound really interesting.
I think I'm going to have to go with La Haine. The movie is pretty heavy, but just so well done. One of the main actors is Vincent Cassel, (plays Vinz in the movie) who also plays Kirril in Eastern Promises.
(Via IMDB)
The film follows three young men and their time spent in the French suburban "ghetto," over a span of twenty-four hours. Vinz, a Jew, Saïd, an Arab, and Hubert, a black boxer, have grown up in these French suburbs where high levels of diversity coupled with the racist and oppressive police force have raised tensions to a critical breaking point. During the riots that took place a night before, a police officer lost his handgun in the ensuing madness, only to leave it for Vinz to find. Now, with a newfound means to gain the respect he deserves, Vinz vows to kill a cop if his friend Abdel dies in the hospital, due the beating he received while in police custody. Written by b4arr2y
Ma Vie En Rose

Son un film stupéfiant qui vous prend par l'histoire d'un garçon qui toujours a pensé il a été signifié pour être fille. La façon que le film a été fait est différente et vous donne un point de vue intéressant.
Its an amazing film that takes you through the story of a boy who always thought he was meant to be a girl. The way the movie was made is different and gives you an interesting point of view.
I hope I got it translated correctly into french.
Like a couple people have already mentioned, I love La cité des enfants perdus. Amazing set ups and story. Dramatic acting and I love the aesthetic of the sets and desaturation of the film.
Does The Science of Sleep count? It's French and English "fusion."=] By the wonderful Michel Gondry, who is a genius in editing and directing.
I really want to see Ma Vie en Rose.
One of my other favorites is Godard's, Perriot Le Fou. It's a silly movie, but a fun watch. It's kind of like a french Bonnie and Clyde but without the banks. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059592/
I love the movie Ma Vie En Rose also.
I want to reccomend the movie Jeux d'enfants or Love Me if You Dare. It has the always lovely Marion Cotillard in it with Guillaume Canet. It's one of my favorites along with Le Fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain, though I'm sure most know about that movie already.
Anywho, the IMDB plot summary is as follows for Jeux d'enfants:
As adults, best friends Julien and Sophie continue the odd game they started as children -- a fearless competition to outdo one another with daring and outrageous stunts. While they often act out to relieve one another's pain, their game might be a way to avoid the fact that they are truly meant for one another.
Check it out. :]
I wouldn't say this movie is my favorite French movie, but this is a movie I enjoyed alot. It's called "Taxi" (it has up to 4 sequels, I believe...). I watched this movie when I was young, so I don't remember that much, but I remember that it was a really funny movie that made me laugh alot. This movie is about a ex pizza deliver boy becoming a taxi driver and ending up helping a loser inspector catch the German bank robbers. Apparently there is a remake of this movie in America also...(which I've never watched or knew about )

My two favorite french movies have to be Le jeux d'enfants or Love me if you dare(english title) and Wasabi. Love me if you dare is a very nonconventional love story, it definitely has a lot of dark comedy involved. As for Wasabi, Jean Reno, need i say more? a kick ass- take no names action flick set in japan.
Le Voyage Dans la Lune:
At a meeting of the astronomy club, Professor Barbenfouillis announces his next venture: to lead a manned expedition to the moon. Six astronomers volunteer to accompany him on his journey, which is made via a rocket shell catapulted to the moon by an enormous cannon. As soon as the explorers emerge onto the lunar surface, there is an explosion and they are sent in all directions. To recover, they lie down to sleep and dream a fantastic dream about the heavenly bodies. When they awake, they are half-frozen and decide to go beneath the moon’s surface to find shelter. Their next discovery is a grotto filled with giant mushrooms – behind which emerge the lunar inhabitants, the Selenites. The explorers are taken to the king of the moon but manage to escape, by thrashing the fragile Selenites with their umbrellas. They return to earth to receive a hero’s return.

Some French movies I have really enjoyed consist of Hors de Prix, and Paris, je’taime. Although one of my favorite movies is Before Sunset. I believe its an American film but takes place in Paris and stars Julie delpy, a great French actress. The story follows the conversation of past lovers as they walk througout paris catching up and talking about what ever crosses their minds. Fantastic acting and writing!
I love all Audrey Tautou movies. My favorite french film is Amelie, staring, of course, Audrey Tautou. Amelie (Tautou) is a shy waitress who decides to change the lives of others through small acts of kindness. It takes place in Montmarte, France, and has a sort of Royal Tanenbaum vibe, but in a Parisian way. An excellent movie to watch when you are sick at home with nothing to do.

Audrey Tautou is also going to star in a movie about Coco Chanel's early life before her fame and glory, called Coco Avant Chanel, so I am really excited for that to come out in theaters!!!!
I would have to say 'Bande a Part' by Jean Luc Goddard is my favorite french film.
the scene i like best is when they dance
quoted from IMDB
"A triangle: Franz, Arthur, and Odile. Franz, a young man with Alain Delon good looks, has met Odile in an English class. She lives in Joinville with wealthy benefactors and has mentioned to Franz that Mr. Stolz keeps a pile of 10,000 franc notes unlocked in his room. Franz tells his friend Arthur, a swarthy guy whose shady uncle is pressing him for money. Arthur and Franz, who mimic American movie tough guys, case Odile's house, pressure her to assist them with a burglary, and make passes at her as well. She's alternately compliant and distressed. Will they pull off the heist?"
There are both French and English dub for this movie!!!

I haven't seen a whole lot of French films yet but from what I've seen I really like the film Russian Dolls. I like how the characters were very instinctual and sometimes irrational in the decisions they made. I thought it was one of the most realistic films I've seen to date.
I haven't seen many French movies, but I like Persepolis, about an Iranian girl in the 70s who moves to France. I also like La Vie en Rose, about the life of Edith Piaf. When I was little, I liked watching Babar, if that counts. :)

Personally, I'm a big fan of action films, so I would like to recommend:
Léon the Professional
"Léon is a hitman, and happy with his life. When a young girl comes home to find her family has been killed by a drug dealer, she runs to him for help. When she discovers he is a hitman, she asks him to teach her the skills to take her revenge."
It is a spectacular film by the French director Luc Besson. The main character is played by Jean Reno and he delivers an exceptional performance. Alongside Reno, the film also features the first breakthrough performance of the young Natalie Portman.
This is an animated film called "Les Triplettes de Belleville" by Sylvain Chomet, released in 2003.The film satirically pokes fun at national stereotypes and clichés foreigners spread about French and Americans.
I like this film because i think it has a unique style of animation: many interesting characters, good music(soundtrack) selection and fun!

My favorite French movie that I have seen so far is High tension. It is INSANE!!!!! I for sure recommend it for people to like thriller movies. I will never forget this movie. CRAZY.

The only french films I have seen were clips of a few artistic directors from the History of Film: Post 1940 liberal arts class. (It's an amazing class, everyone take it!) One film stuck out to me, Un Femme Est Un Femme by Jean-Luc Godard. You can't help but be entranced and smile as you watch this film. It stars the beautiful, famous french actress Anna Karina. The entire film is whimsical and edited with little cuts, interesting soundbytes, and fun colors. Also, I believe it is a "Watch It Now" instant film on Netflix, so if you have an account, definitely check it out!
Raylin! I used to love Babar! OMG I think I still have some of his books.
My favorite french movie is Paris Je t'aime. I like Lars, also enjoy watching Leon the Professional.
Although I never watched it in French my favorite French cartoon is Madeline!

One of my favorite French movies is He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not, aka A la folie... pas du tout.
It stars Audrey Tautou and Samuel Le Bihan and takes you through their relationship, from her point of view then his. Go watch it.
barbar LOL. i havent heard that in so long. i grew up with that too, awesome show:)
My recommendation to you all is The 400 Blows.
I have a few favorites that are great classics-
