When greeting each other, French people oftens kiss each other on the cheeks, two, three or four times depending on the regions.  The act is called « se faire la bise ».  Women kiss men, women and men kiss women, men, the latter only when they are relatives or close friends. Hugging is reserved for family members or lovers.  A good handshake is the norm for people you meet for the first time.
